The IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) was created by Gene Roddenberry and represents an idea that is larger than the Star Trek Universe. It celebrates diversity and integrating every part to make something bigger and better than the individual parts. It sounds a lot like LEGO pieces.
