As a fan of the Golden Girls since I was little, I decided to recreate the sounds stage that the show was filmed on. I wanted it to be like the actual set, so there was no front wall and the “audience” could look right into the house.
After I published the images online, it went viral. It received the support it needed on https://ideas.lego.com/projects/98263 within a few hours. LEGO ultimately decided not to produce the set for market due to many variables including cost, prospective buyer demographic, and licensing. The experience of love and support that the project generated from around the world was very flattering.
Ellen Degeneres posted it on her Facebook page, it was on Yahoo’s main page, Time.com, and countless other websites. I even received a private email from one of the original set designers that worked on the TV show. He told me how amazing he thought it was, how accurate it was to the actual stage, and how he was so happy to see it still being such a large part of the pop culture.
It was later published in the book
The Golden Girls Forever by Jim Colucci. available on Amazon.
